This volume brings together a collection of chapters that relook at the present socio-political situation in Kerala from diverse angles. Apart from the political configurations and coalitions that Kerala is forging on the political front there are other relevant social issues that deserve attention in the study of modern Kerala society. The volume therefore includes issues that relate to the living and occupational conditions of the fisherfolk, tribals and their displacement, political leadership and the significance of religion, caste and community in the society.

M. K. George, S.J. is General Counsellor to the Superior General of the Jesuits, formerly the Provincial of Kerala Jesuits, the Principal of Loyola College of Social Sciences in Thiruvananthapuram, and the Director of the Indian Social Institute in Bengaluru.
P. T. Mathew, S.J. is a former Faculty at Vidyajyoti College of Theology, Delhi. He did his post-doctoral research at the JSTB, Berkeley, USA, and taught at the Loyola College of Social Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram.
R. Sooryamoorthy is Professor of Sociology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and is also a Research Fellow at the DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in STI Policy, Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
