This book is a narration of the experiences of Rev Leslie Lewis and Winifred Lewis, a couple, who served as missionaries in Maulvibazaar, Sylhet and in Jaintia Hills of Northeast India from 1930-1939. The narration is primarily a memoir as Winifred Lewis personally narrated the experiences to the writer who is her daughter. However, reference is also made to the letters which the missionary couple wrote to their parents back home every week and also to the missionary reports. Apart from providing information about the mission work of the Welsh Presbyterian missionaries during those years, the book also provides a glimpse of the prevailing social situation in Sylhet and in Jaintia Hills. Perhaps, it may not be an exaggeration to say that this is one of the books which will help readers get a glimpse of the Presbyterian Church in the Sylhet region of Bangladesh and how the Church in this region is linked to the Presbyterian Church in Northeast India.

Marilyn Lewis is the daughter of the Rev Leslie and Winifred Lewis. She is now retired from her position as Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
